I’ve been photographing surprise proposals and engagement sessions in Cape May and Long Island for a few years now. It’s always a big deal to witness and document them for people. None of them are the same, every reaction is different, every person is different, so every couple is different. Here’s some photos of a few different sessions, including a bit of 35mm film (which I still haven’t gotten back from the last two sessions and I can’t wait to see it).

First there’s H+D. They came from Pennsylvania to spend the day, and he surprised her after lunch. Here’s a few 35mm film photos from their session (digitals not pictured here).

Then there’s B+N. They live in NYC and regularly spend time in the Sea Island City. B planned the whole weekend together, starting with the proposal and following by a mini get-away together. -35mm film coming soon.

Finally, there was this super sweet and fun session with A+J. They live in Florida, but he used to come to Cape May as a kid, when his family lived in New York. They have been together for a long time, so she’s heard about it, and this time she got to come along, and get his grandmother’s diamond while they went for a walk picking Cape May diamonds. It was extremely hot, and I always arrive early so I was half melted by the time the session started, and it was so worth it. The best way to end that weekend.

This way if you want to see a highlight gallery of another proposal in Cape May’s Sunset beach.
