I love Sara and Parag. I mean it when I say we photograph the best people. I’m a little sad we didn’t get a chance to see them in Brooklyn, but maybe it will be easier to get together when they live closer. They are intelligent, kind, fun and I think of them every time Bird Notes comes up on NPR and never remember to ask them if they’ve heard about. — If you are reading this, do you? — Because of that, it wasn’t surprising to see how great their families and friends were, or how much love they got on their wedding, but it still makes me feel pretty amazed that I get to do what I do. Keep scrolling and I’ll tell you about this day.

The morning started with a big group getting ready for the Christian ceremony. River’s Edge has a huge suite that was perfect for Sara’s friends and family to all hang out and get ready at the venue, and Parag had a pretty cool space too. It’s kind of like having a lake house for the day. Once everybody was ready, Sara and Parag had their sweet first look, with all the early birds looking from the patio, but they didn’t even notice until after. From there we headed to the lawn for the first ceremony, officiated by Sara’s Pastor who’s known her since she was a kid. It was beautiful.

After that, there was a break for lunch, and to get ready for the second ceremony. It had to be moved last minute because it started to rain, the venue, planning and rental teams jumped in and made it work. No one would’ve guessed it wasn’t the original plan. I honestly was a pinch worried because now we didn’t have much room to move and document the ceremony, but I think it made the photos even better in some ways.

Parag and his entourage arrived on a boat, where drums and dance started the Hindu celebration of the day. It was joyful and beautiful.

Then came the party. Sarah and Parag changed and jumped straight into the happiest first dance to Bakar’s Hell N Back, and it still plays in my head every time I look at their photos.

One of my favorite days with some of my favorite people.
